Lunar Eclipse at 5 Degrees of Libra: Verdicts Emerge from the Weighing of Hearts
I experience eclipses as a quickening and a loudening. Eclipses are movement and they are process-oriented. Although they may mark significant and powerful events, they are ultimately story-unravelers that spike and fall through time connecting moments of dissolution and revelation that catalyse one's reckoning with the very stuff the soul seeks to work through.
This Lunar Eclipse takes place at 5 degrees of Libra on March 25th at 00:13 Cyprus time. It is the third in a set of six eclipses on the Aries/Libra axis.This tells me we are at a crucial midpoint in the story that has been unraveling since April 23 2023. A change in the direction of the wind; eclipses have an interesting way of turning up tables thought to be set.
In Aries and Libra, these eclipses are illuminating the ways in which we assert our independence and affirm our individuation while cultivating integrity and fairness in relationship with others and the larger social strata we inhabit. The North Node in Aries sings songs of personal becoming but we do not become in a vacuum but are forged by social and interpersonal forces. We cannot individuate in integrity unless that self that strives and fights is birthed out of a deeper social necessity, a desire to correct a perceived imbalance through the cultivation of the self as self-responsible but relational. There is a focus on the ways in which we behave towards others and how they behave towards us. One day life will swallow all of it, but we are here now as Aries reminds us, not in the realm of possibilities and potentials, but in bodies, we are free to act. Every action initiated exists forever in cosmic memory, no action passes by the judgement of Maat as the judgement of the heart is ongoing.
In this lies responsibility and the ability to steer oneself with people. Isolation will not keep us pure, we are here to connect, to love, to risk our hearts with others. We become better individuals for it. Betrayal and hurt is often met along the way, our loves cannot control the will of another and that is a sacredness onto itself. We must bear witness to our relational choices and those of the people we love, even amidst our longing, despairs and patterned desires, there is a place to step out and invite spaciousness in connection. This spaciousness allows us to not personalise the difficulty another has to connection and lets us witness other through different prisms before the blindness of union.
Tolstoy said that "future love does not exist for love is a present activity only" and in that we can begin to brush off fear from the lens of love and centre our connections as activities in which we participate without the need for control. Love for others and the world is also not something to be stashed for the future, it is something to be actualised now through our decision to feel the reality of our relational existence. We are asked to go inward to fine-tune our moral and spiritual compasses and get clear on the types of behaviours that build ethical connection to others and to ourselves.
The interpersonal dynamics that come up during this eclipse are powerful psychodramas of deeper entrenched patterns that must be worked through; they are in a way karmic and are stories that have a much deeper past than what is initially apparent.The stories signalled by the South Node in Libra are likely to bring up all big or silent imbalances that have tipped the scale to be met by the gaze of Maat; the goddess who weighs our hearts against an ostrich leaf. The scales are only allowed to tip so far before natural balance is restored.
During this eclipse, we may be asked to either take inventory of the lightness of our hearts or make choices that amend their heaviness.Because even though we walk through the world as if we owe each other nothing, in actuality we do owe each other things and in the depths of our heart that is a truth. The choices we may be invited to make at this time may feel challenging as they may entail kicking in a crutch to learn how to stand better in favour of a deeper integrity settling in around how we connect. Libra is a force of social and ethical principles, it is also sensitive to injustice and that which is not of truth within a relationship. Fairness and reciprocity must underpin our connections if we are not to see them dissolve at the altar of egoic self-centrism.
It is interesting to note that the eclipse happens in the first decan of Libra heralding movement to a truer state of being. This decan also heralds the arrival of Themis, white-clad, sword-carrying and blindfolded. The goddess of Justice arrives, sword in hand, in a world asleep to the imbalance within it. It is the appearance of Justice before the exaction of it. It is the moment where the tides turn but the hubris has not yet been addressed by the Furies who follow closely behind. Restoration takes more than the recognition of the Goddess, it takes the divine fury of the Erinyes and their destroying power that turns the very transgression into the weapon of its demise.
They are hungry for those who transgress divine law, those who murder, those who lie and those who make sacred things unsacred. They touch them in ways divine and appropriate enacting their downfall from the spool of their harm to the natural balance. It is interesting to note that the last eclipse in Libra was on the 14th of October 2023, shortly after the outbreak of the downpour on Palestine. Now five months into a relentless genocide, where our eyes have witnessed the killing of innocents, the undercurrents begin to shift in subtle ways and the injustice becomes undeniable in the eyes of the masses. The interconnected systems that thrive on the transgressions of the natural balance have begun to rot in front of our eyes. We are more aware than ever of the amends that must be made and of the systems that cannot exist without our oppression.The truth cannot hide, it is in its nature. The verdict of the Goddess becomes clear.
The ruler of this eclipse, Venus, has just moved from a conjunction with Saturn suggesting that we are able to see the darkness that corrupts our hearts and only things that have integrity and the ability to withstand the illusion of individuality without connection will be allowed to pass through the portal. Make amends to your heart and to all your heart has wronged.Be fair towards yourself and be fair towards others. We are not perfect beings and our love often falls short but every action has the power to lighten or laden the scale and we are free to act.
